Becoming a Hormone Evangalista

Ever since “finding” Dr Sara in October 2012, when listening to an interview with her via the Great Parenting Show, I’ve been listening to her, reading her emails and have enrolled in a number of her courses, jumping in straight away. Why?

In the first two minutes of listening to her I found out that there were “cute little glands in our mid back” called our adrenal glands, that release cortisol, and that “high cortisol will make you store fat where you can pick it up easily, as if you have a tiger chasing you ALL of the time”.

Hormone-Cure-Paperback-Final-Cover.jpgI found out that I was not the only stressed out and depleted mum, as she shared her own story where she addressed the root causes of her own “stress case”, and talked about learning to balance our neuro-hormonal dashboard in the optimal range, using her 3 proven steps that are outlined in The Hormone Cure, by Dr Sara Gottfried, as the Gottfried Protocol.

The mid back pain and sometimes some accompanying nausea, that I had experienced on and off over the previous 8 years, since the birth of my second child, was likely in fact to be a result of what was going on in my adrenal glands, not only because of sitting at a computer for many hours. I also found that there were many other root causes – and with a background in physiotherapy and analysis of symptoms, my mind now started to have some tools, and I became further equipped to review my own history, and realise why physiotherapy and massage alone hadn’t worked for what I had been experiencing.

While I might have got away with burning the candle at both ends in my 30’s, staying up late and getting up early to do what needed to be done, I learned that this, without an associated level of self  care was not something that I could keep up with any more, now in my mid 40’s. I even had given away over the years the very thing that I knew was best for me – a level of regular exercise that served me and my adrenals too. Add in not getting much in the way of “restorative sleep” for many years, I had little in reserve.  I look back at my “story” and now can see many reasons for feeling ‘depleted’ as so many mums do. Over the past 11 years I have looked after my children at the same time as juggling a career, business and national volunteer commitments and then more recently many hours as a project manager sitting at the computer, plus local community committee roles. And don’t forget ‘being a wife’ in there somewhere too.

Dr Sara talks about womens’ tendency to “over providing”, which drains our energy, kills our sex life and undermines our families happiness. She also talked about the “muffin top”  ie belly fat that won’t move, sugar cravings and women needing a glass of wine to sooth themselves and to settle down at the end of the day. Attributing these to hormonal imbalances, often the result of the unskillful management of stress, Dr Sara teaches many practices that are easy to integrate, starting with filling in nutritional gaps as step 1 of the Gottfried Protocol.

Quote-Banner-4.jpgOne thing that ‘struck’ me recently, just before she offered for us to join her in becoming one of her “Hormone Evangalista’s” was that her mess had now become her message. In moving the needle for herself  by integrating medicine, the results of RCT studies, nutritional practices and becoming a yoga teacher, she has now helped over 20 000 women in her practice. This resonated, and having seen so many women struggling with many women’s health issues in my career, I had a burning desire to take up this offer and not only change my own life for the future, but help many other women, spreading the message of The Hormone Cure.

Quote-Banner-2.jpgSo now that I have been reclaiming my sleep, my stretches and my salmon (Omega 3’s), I am also learning to turn off the computer earlier each night and to use heart coherence techniques with the app GPS for the Soul and the Inner Ease technique from Heart Math. I also have what I call my “mummy smoothy” every day to start to balance my hormones. All things I have learned about in the past 4 months from Dr Sara.  I’ve taken a step in the new and right direction to replenish the inner ME, fill up my own tank again, learning more each day including saying NO more often, I will also then be able to learn how I can be the Hormone Evangalista that I signed up for. It will also help me to “Rock My Mission” here at The Pregnancy Centre and I hope that if you choose to tap into The Hormone Cure that you too will be able to Rock Yours and spread the word to ALL of the women that you know!

Dr Sara’s an amazing provider, always giving more - with every course I’ve done there have been bonuses  – click HERE for her current offer when you order her new book The Hormone Cure.

I think she might be onto something. I can certainly relate to most of these 'symptoms'.

Thanks Dianne
