Digital nomads work online from anywhere in the world. If you’ve ever wanted to live like this, but don’t know where to start, Untethered is for you. Let a veteran digital nomad take you by the hand and lead you through this new territory.

In Untethered you’ll learn exactly what it takes to engineer a digital nomad lifestyle in a post‐pandemic world. With travel stories and case studies interlaced with clear, real‐world guidance, you’ll discover whether the digital nomad lifestyle is for you and equip yourself with the tools to create your own location‐independent life.

The dream of being a digital nomad has inspired many to quit their jobs and attempt to live a life that is global and free of the daily 9 to 5 grind. To travel to exotic lands, meet interesting people, and enjoy limitless adventure — all while earning money from a few strokes of the keypad. But many find themselves frustrated in pursuit of this dream. The realities of a digital nomad life are far from simple, and with the pandemic of 2020 and ongoing global uncertainty, the complexities of life on the road have become even more challenging to navigate. Yet with these challenges have come opportunities: remote work is no longer an exception, but a very real option within reach of many of us. With more and more businesses being started and with corporations having a seemingly endless appetite for new talent, the opportunities for workers to establish themselves as digital nomads are abundant.

At 17 years old, Nathan Thomas bought a ticket for 20,000 kilometres on the Greyhound Bus network in Australia. Over the next decade, he lived in China, Spain, Poland and Hungary, visiting and experiencing dozens of other countries along the way. He has been living as a digital nomad over the last seven years.

‘In this book you will receive a direct, unvarnished account of what being a digital nomad is actually like,’ says Nathan. ‘You will meet various other ‘digital nomads’ who have found their own paths to location independent living. You will learn how entrepreneurs (who did not simply get lucky) deliberately created lifestyle businesses that they could operate remotely, and you’ll learn the steps to take and the skills required to emulate them, if you choose to do so.’

In Untethered Nathan breaks down the common misconceptions of being a digital nomad, presenting a vision of travel that is both challenging and humbling.

‘By the end of Untethered, you will know whether or not the digital nomad life — or some slice of it — is right for you. And if you decide that it is, you will understand how to go about it based on your unique skills, goals, preferences and motivations.’ ‐  Nathan James Thomas
